AWA Thrift Shop

The AWA Thrift Shop collects donations for the AWA Outreach Committee. All donations (with the exception of perishables) are accepted!  Funds from items sold in the Thrift Shop are used to purchase equipment and materials for NGOs. Items not sold in the Thrift Shop go to Charlotte’s Web, which sends items directly to NGOs to be used in a variety of ways.

Donations Needed:

  • Any clean clothing in good repair (adult/children/infant), shoes, belts, ties/scarves, purses and backpacks
  • Toys, games, DVDs/CDs, cassette tapes, movies, VHS, records
  • Stationary: coloring books, crayons, pens, pencils, scissors, paper, greeting cards, crafts supplies
  • Household: vases, throw rugs, pillows, pictures, bedding, towels, fabric
  • Appliances, dishes, glasses, pots and pans, silverware, knives, table linens, aprons
  • Cosmetics, toiletries, soaps, shampoo, lotion, perfume, jewelry, hair ornaments
  • Old prescription glasses, small lidded containers for a clinic (i.e. prescription medicine bottles, condiment containers, spice jars)
  • Books – fiction and non-fiction, adults’ and children’s
  • Empty bags for customer purchases, plastic hangers…
  • AND Time….Your time… any amount of time between 9a-2p, Tue & Thu to sort, tag and prepare donations received and/or Fri Sales, 1030a-3p to tally purchases, collect payment, maintain shop and help customers

What Do We Give?

Thrift Shop sales help purchase needed items for NGOs such as:

  • Solar powered perimeter lights for girls’ school/shelter
  • Commercial water filtering systems for children’s schools
  • School books, supplies, desks, computers, uniforms and shoes
  • Fixtures for four floors of restrooms in a girls’ school
  • Sewing machines and beauty salon chairs for vocational training
  • Dental Camp Program for children
  • A/C units and swamp coolers for schools, hostels and rescued animal kennels

Everything finds a home through Charlotte’s Web!  For example:

  • Broken plastics and electronics fund food programs
  • Video/audio tapes are woven into accessories like yoga mat bags
  • Beauty supplies and equipment enable vocational training
  • Baking equipment teach rescued girls a new passion
  • Arts and crafts materials help children and adults with disabilities make a living
  • Tactile toys help enrich the lives of children with autism
  • Educational toys, schoolbooks and supplies help a number of NGOs that work with children
  • Clothing goes to NGOs that help homeless, poor, or sick men, women and children
