›› Welcome to India!
The Delhi AWA was founded in 1947.
We strive to offer a soft place to land upon your arrival to Delhi. The AWA offers support and encourages friendship among fellow Americans, provides opportunities to work with local charitable organizations, and promotes a positive environment in which to learn about the Indian culture through a variety of educational and social events.
We welcome and encourage all United States citizens or spouses of United States citizens living in India to become members of AWA. In the following pages we hope you find all the information you're looking for. If not, please feel to contact our office.
›› Note from our Executive Board
Happy August! We hope this newsletter finds you staying dry and beating the monsoon season humidity. A special welcome back to our members who are returning to Delhi after a summer away; we look forward to catching up with you as membership events start up again after the summer lull .
For our newer and longstanding members alike, this month offers some great opportunities to find out what’s going on with AWA. Join us for the monthly board meeting on Wednesday, August 21st to learn more about the various programs and events to come as well as volunteer opportunities with our Library and Thrift Shop, and learn how you can make a difference at our Outreach committee meeting on Thursday, August 22nd. Grab a coffee and meet some new people at Chai Time, and bring your swimsuit and towel for our third annual Welcome Back Pool Party held at the AES pool (more information to come). And although it feels early, planning for the AWA Holiday Mela is already underway; this year’s mela will be held on Sunday, November 17th and there are so many ways to get involved. Contact Sam Sharma at firstname.lastname@example.org to find out how you can help – we really can’t do it without you!
We hope to see you soon, be it at a meeting, event, or feel free to stop by the office and say hello!
